Quinton Martinez is pursuing a degree in Print Media with a minor in History and is on track to graduate in May 2009. Martinez has worked in both radio and print since 2000. He spent over eight years with KROD 600 AM as their Sports Director as well as on-air host, and has also worked for publications in El Paso including the <em>The Prospector</em> at UTEP, where he has written since 2006. Quinton has written for three student publications since beginning his trek through higher education 10 years ago (Arizona State, El Paso Community College, and UTEP). While he has a soft spot in his heart for sports reporting, Quinton is a sucker for a good story for any section of the publication. He would like to cover college athletics for a major metro upon graduation, but would be happy with any job in print.
Fifty-year-old Linda S. Martinez is a newspaper carrier for the El Paso Times and is far from the 1950’s stereotype of a 12-year-old boy on his bicycle making extra money for baseball cards. She needs the money she has been earning for nearly 20 years on this job to live on and fears that with newspapers closing left and right her job could be ending and a very difficult search for new employment could be starting.
