Jacqueline DelPilar

Jacqueline is a senior at the University of Tennessee, where she majors in broadcast journalism with a minor in political science. She was born in a small town in New York before moving to Nashville, Tenn., as a teen. Jacqueline developed a passion for news at a young age and began pursuing this profession as soon as she could. In high school, she was editor-in-chief of Independence High School’s newspaper, The Declaration, as well as segment producer for the IHS Media video program. At the University of Tennessee, Jacqueline has been a contributing reporter for The Tennessee Journalist and a television producer for The Volunteer Channel. She produced “World View,” a talk show about international matters and later produced “Greek Corner,” a multi-segment show that includes news, talk and entertainment. She has served as vice president of TVC for the past year and will be taking her role as president in the fall. In the spring, Jacqueline worked as a multimedia reporter and anchor for “UT Today,” a student-produced news magazine program that airs weekly on WBIR Channel 10 Knoxville. Jacqueline spent the summer of 2012 interning with WTVF News Channel 5 in Nashville, where she worked with producers and technical operators on the morning show. She also worked on “Talk of the Town,” a mid-day show, and had the opportunity to write, produce and report a segment on air. While working at WTVF, Jacqueline was floor director at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Telethon in July of 2012. In the future, Jacqueline hopes to report and anchor broadcast news in a medium to large market. She is so thankful for this experience with the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire, and looks forward to perfecting her craft as a journalist.

Washington remembers, celebrates the 50th anniversary of March on Washington

WASHINGTON – When Ethel Delaney Lee,87, heard about plans for the March on Washington in 1963, she knew it was something she wanted to participate in. She didn’t expect it to be such a defining moment in history, but soon realized how important this gathering was. “It was in the news, in the newspapers, announcements in the churches. You couldn’t exist in Washington and not hear about it,” Lee said in an interview in the Northwest Washington home she moved into just weeks before the march. Lee, her late husband.
