Since 1992, I've served as Reference Librarian and Latin American and Borderlands subject specialist at the NMSU Library. I try to keep users aware of sources of information about the US-Mexico Border and Latin America. One of my pet projects is an ongoing guide, Internet Resources for Latin America I acquire materials (print, electronic and other formats) from and about Latin America for the NMSU Library. I set up and monitor several approval plans for acquiring books from Mexico and other Latin American countries to support the teaching and research needs of faculty and students. EL PASO – Children play in the pool, hamburgers and hot dogs sizzle on the grill. The exiles will be here shortly after their year in flight from a house full of dead people. Everyone at the party has dead people murdered in Mexico by the Mexican government with the silent consent of the U.S. government. There are 100,000 slaughtered Mexicans now. These gatherings will grow larger.

Rape is an act of extreme cruelty, a reflection of an accumulation of hate that the man carries inside of himself. It is the most brutal aggression that a human being can receive from another; it causes severe injury to the person’s liberty, physical integrity, mental health and sometimes to life itself. In this border city, several young women have recently died at the hands of one or several individuals who, making use of their physical strength, have raped and murdered them. It could have been you, your sister or your daughter, but this time it was other innocents who paid too high of a price for the hatred that the society, the family or others had planted in the hearts of these individuals. Despite the fact that we are about to enter the 21st century, there are still many who believe that the victim is guilty of inciting the rapist, without considering that a high number of infants and very old women also suffer this aggression.
