  • Adriana Gómez LicónAdriana Gómez Licón is a senior print media major at UTEP who is about to graduate in May 2009. Even thought the newspaper industry doesn't look very promising for graduates, Gómez Licón will not give up on her dream on becoming a journalist who can cover investigative and in-depth pieces about social issues, politics, business, health and environment. She will be going to Virginia to intern during the summer at The Roanoke Times after she graduates. Meanwhile, she is the editor in chief for The UTEP Prospector, student newspaper. She joined The Prospector in August 2006 as a news and entertainment correspondent. She has been writing stories in English and Spanish about a variety of issues happening on and off campus from theater reviews to the TCEQ hearing on ASARCO that took place in Austin. Ms. Gómez Licón is a student member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She received a Scripps Howard Foundation scholarship, which allowed her to fulfill an internship at The Albuquerque Tribune (former afternoon newspaper) in the summer of 2007. She completed her French minor by studying abroad in the city of Angers in France through one of UTEP’s international programs. She traveled throughout Europe for a month and spent a semester taking French classes, living with a host family and experiencing the beautiful culture of cheese, wine and castles. Ms. Gómez Licón is a "yaquesita", from Ciudad Obregón, a city in the state of Sonora, Mexico. She came to UTEP to get her bachelor’s degree in print media.
