Yadira G. Nieves – Pizarro was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Writing had been one of her passions since she was a kid, and journalism proved to be the ideal profession for her. Before completing her Bachelor’s Degree from the School of Communication of the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, in 2002, she started working in Noticentro, WAPA TV, first as an Assistant News Producer, and 2005 as a News Producer of various newscasts. In Noticentro, Nieves – Pizarro had the opportunity to oversee the coverage of breaking news, elections among other newsworthy events. In 2008 she earned a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the School of Communication of the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. Her thesis explored the spectacularization of television news. That same year Nieves – Pizarro started working as a professor in the Communications Department in the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón Campus. There she teaches media and news writing, news production, multimedia journalism, radio announcing and production courses. The instructor served as counselor of the Communications Student’s Association from 2011 - 2014. She has directed special projects such as the 2012 Election Coverage and the online magazine Grafo (www.grafo.info) from 2013 - 2014. Nieves – Pizarro has written for 80 Grados, Chasqui and Comunica. The educator has collaborated with the Center for the Freedom of the Press of Puerto Rico as a lecturer in the Journalism Education Summit from 2012 - 2014. She was a judge in the 2013 Puerto Rican Press Association Journalism Excellence Awards.
Mercedes Vigon, Ph.D., associate director of the International Media Center, and associate professor from Florida International University. She launched a Journalism Master's Program with Tec de Monterrey México and trained journalists in Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Spain. She has taught from Multimedia Production, Visual Story Telling, Broadcast News Reporting, Online Web Design for Journalism, to Investigative Journalism Techniques, Database and Computer Assisted Reporting, and Covering Social and Ethnic Issues. She also worked as a TV news director for Net Financial News, as executive producer and international writer for CBS Telenoticias, and as a journalist with UP
Multimedia Journalism Major with an interest in broadcasting. Skilled in both audio/video media production with a good on-air personality and always willing/looking to learn, improve, and end each day as a better version of myself than when I started.
